Summer Frustration

I have never been so frustrated in the Summer time as this year. Due to my 2+ weeks of pneumonia I have been in the red with my vacation time. Hey, I mean, it was either take the negative hours or lose the pay. When faced with the decision of eating or going into vacation debt, I think I'd take the latter any day of the week.

I started at -38 hours, that's almost a whole week of vacation in the negative. As of today I am still 5 hours in the red. I haven't had a day off other than July 4th and Labor Day which, obviously, are company holidays.

The most frustrating part of this is that the wife and kids are home from school all summer long. My wife works (or did work, I should say, due to the Governator's recent budget cuts to education) for the Roseville City School District as a Kindergarten aide, so when the kids get out she is no longer working. I get up, get ready and leave for work while everyone in the house is still sleeping. And when I get home, generally no one is there.

When we're finally all together after I get home from work I get to hear about how much fun golfing was or their trip to Sunsplash or how cool the movie was they saw or how they went swimming or you name it. An entire summer of this with no extra time off to spend with the family or for extracirricular activities becomes quite frustrating and I've grown weary.

Even our annual summer trip to Santa Cruz and Monterey were cancelled becasue I was unable to take time off work.

I know crap happens, I get that, but I don't think I was mentally prepared for this stretch of vacationless summer. Sigh.
